June Tailor® Diamond Cut Ruler
1/3 yd. Inner border fabric
1/2 yd. Outer border fabric
1/2 yd. Binding fabric
1-3/8 yds. Backing fabric

Instructions:

All seam allowances are 1/4".

From 8 of the fabrics for diamonds, cut two strips 2-1/2" by width of fabric. From 4 of the fabrics for diamonds, cut three strips 2-1/2" by width of fabric.  There are 28 total 2-1/2" strips of fabric required. Cut off salvage edges.

Place two strips, horizontally, right sides together. Offset top strip 2" to the left of bottom strip. Sew strips together across the long edge. Open and press seam to one side. Repeat using all strips to create 14 two-piece strips.

Place strip set on rotary cutting mat. Lay Diamond Cut ruler on width of fabric, aligning bottom line of ruler with raw edge of fabric. Create first angle by cutting along the outside right edge of ruler. Cut in 2-1/2" slot and 5" slot. Lift ruler and reposition right edge of fabric with right edge of ruler, aligning bottom edge of fabric with printed line on ruler. Cut in 2-1/2" and 5" slots. Continue until entire strip set has been cut. Repeat for all strip sets.

Sew two-piece diamond sets into 3 rows of 20 diamonds and 2 rows each of 18, 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6 and 4 diamonds. Press seams in one direction for each row. Sew three 20-diamond rows together. Sew 18-diamond rows to 20-diamond rows, 16-diamond rows to 18-diamond rows and so forth to create rectangular quilt center.

Making sure to keep 1/4" seam allowance, trim quilt according to diagram with 12 partial diamonds across by 10 partial diamonds high. (Should measure 25" x 35- 1/2" including seam allowance.

For inner border cut two strips 2-1/2" x 35-1/2" and two strips 2-1/2" x 28-1/2". Sew the 35-1/2" inner border strips to 35-1/2" edges of quilt center. Press seams toward inner border. Sew opposite inner border strips to quilt center. Press seams toward inner border.

For outer border, cut two strips 3-1/2" x 39-1/2" and two strips 3-1/2" x 34". Sew the 39-1/2" outer border strips to the 39-1/2" inner border sides. Press seams toward outer border. Sew opposite outer border strips to inner border. Press seams toward outer border.

Layer quilt top, batting and backing. Quilt as desired, square and bind.
