Fancy Fleece™ Diamond Edge Poncho

Materials:

1 yd. Purple fleece
1/3 yd. Lime green fleece
Thread to match
1 1/2 yds. Fusible Web
Pressing cloth (optional)
June Tailor® Fancy Fleece™ Ruler
Rotary cutter
Rotary cutting mat

Instructions:

Cut purple fleece fabric to 28” by 56”.

Cut two strips of fusible web to 28” x 4” and one piece to 48” x 4”. According to manufacturer’s instructions, press fusible web to the wrong side of fleece on two short sides and one long. Leave backing sheet of fusible web in place.

Beginning with a short side, fold in 2”, wrong sides together. Using the diamond cut-out pattern of the Fancy Fleece™ ruler, begin cutting diamonds 1” from raw edge. Continue cutting diamonds in the same manner across all sides with the fusible web attached.

Cut two strips of green fabric 28” x 4” and one piece 48” x 4”.

Remove fusible web backing. Fuse right side of green fleece to wrong side of purple fleece according manufacturer’s instructions. If necessary, use a pressing cloth to protect the nap of your fleece.

Fold poncho fabric in half widthwise, right sides together. Beginning at top outside edge, using a 1/2” seam allowance, stitch toward fold, stopping 13” from fold to form neck opening. Back tack ends. Press seam open. Turn poncho right side out. Line up raw edges again if needed.

Place wavy edge of Fancy Fleece™ ruler close to the raw edge of the fabric with straight edge of ruler on the bottom fold. Cut waves through both layers of fabric to corner. In the same manner cut wavy edge down side of poncho.
