Rainbow Laced Pillow

Materials:

14” Pillow form
5/8 yd. Main color fleece
14” x 20” Piece of contrasting color fleece
1 yd. 1” Contrasting ribbon
June Tailor® Fancy Fleece™ and Fringe Cut™ rulers
Rotary cutter
Rotary cutting mat

Instructions:

Cut main color fleece to 25” x 20”.

Fold one short edge of main color fleece inward 2 1/2”. Using the triangle cut-out portion of the Fancy Fleece™ ruler, place rule on fold and beginning 4 1/2” from long, unfolded edge cut triangle shapes beginning with the second unit of triangle cuts on the ruler. Continue to cut a total of eight triangles.

Repeat for other short side of fleece.

Unfold fleece to reveal completed triangles.

Place one triangle cut edge of fleece on top of contrasting color fleece overlapping 4 1/2”. Place the slits for weaving portion of your Fancy Fleece™ ruler on top of the cut triangles, lining up the slits with the long straight edges of the triangles. Cut slits through contrasting fleece only where it appears through triangles.

Remove main color fleece from contrasting fleece and repeat for other side.

Separate the two pieces of fleece. Placing the wavy edge of the Fancy Fleece™ ruler close to the edges of the short sides of the main color fleece, cut a wavy edge.

Realign the triangles of the main color fleece overlapping the slits of the contrast fleece. Using 1/2 of the ribbon per side, weave under contrast fleece, up through slit and triangle of main fleece fabric and back down through next set of cuts. Do this for both sides leaving ribbon ends even at both ends. Trim ribbon if necessary to equal the length of fleece.

Position pillow cover on cutting mat that contrast color fleece is centered side to side.

Using Fringe Cut™ ruler, cut fringe measuring 1/2” x 3” on top and bottom of pillow cover. Make sure to cut 1/2” fringe at both outside edges.

Tie fringe in pairs across top of pillow cover using over hand knots, including ribbon tails. Note that some knots will have three tails in them.

Slide pillow form in pocket created.

Tie fringe across bottom of pillow in the same manner as the top to complete pillow.
