Making the Setting Blocks (Half Square)
Place an 11” tan square on top of a red square RST. Mark a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner on the tan square. Stitch ¼” on both sides of the diagonal line. Cut square apart on the diagonal line. Press seam towards red side. Make a total of (8) blocks. Trim down to 10 ½” x 10 ½”.

(Buckeye Beauty Block)
Stitch a 3” red and 3” tan strip RST on long side of the strips. (Make 3)
Press toward red. Cut one strip set in half. Place one half of the strip set RST with the opposite half making sure the two colors are opposite one another.
Repeat this step with the other two strip sets; sub-cut the layered strip set into (16) 3” segments. Sew all (16) sets to create (16) 4-patch units, making sure to match intersections.
Place a 5 7/8” blue square and a 5 7/8” tan square RST. Mark a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner on the tan square. Stitch ¼” on both sides of the diagonal line. Cut square apart on diagonal line. Press seams toward blue side. Make a total of (8) blocks.
Following the block diagram, stitch the first two units together, one 4-patch to one 5 ½” tan square. (Make 8 pairs)
Press seam allowances towards tan square. For next step, stitch blue/tan block to 4-patch. (Make 8 pairs)
Press seam allowances towards half square. Combine both units together, alternating and matching intersections. (Make 8 blocks)

Assembling the Quilt Top
With RST and raw edges matched, stitch the blocks in each row. Follow the quilt diagram layout to determine block placement in each row. Press seams in opposite directions for each row. Pin rows together, pinning at all intersections. Stitch the rows together to complete quilt center.
Sew inner border (tan) strips to top and bottom of pieced quilt center. Press seams toward border. Trim off excess length.
Stitch (2) tan strips together, end to end, to get the length needed for the side borders. Sew tan pieced strips to both sides of pieced quilt center. Press seam toward border. Trim off excess length.
Sew middle and outer border to pieced quilt center in same manner. Sew to the sides first. Press seams toward border. Trim off excess length. Then sew to top and bottom of pieced quilt center. Press seams toward border. Trim off excess length. Repeat with blue fabric for outer border.
