Quilting Glossary:
RST = Right sides together
RSU = Right sides up
WOF = Width of fabric
Crosswise = Follow grain; fold fabric selvage to selvage and
cut across fold.
All cutting measurements include ¼” seam allowance.
Sew in ¼” seam allowance.

Fabric A (red) 1/3 yard
Fabric B (blue) 1 2/3 yards
Fabric C (purple) 1 yard
Fabric D (yellow) 1 1/4 yards
Fabric E (stripe) 1 2/3 yards
Backing fabric 4 3/4 yards Cutting Directions (Cut fabric crosswise unless stated)
Fabric A (red)
Cut (3) strips 3” wide.
Fabric B (blue)
Cut (2) strips 11” wide, sub-cut into (4) 11” squares.
Cut (3) strips 3” wide.
Cut (1) strip 7” wide, sub-cut into (4) 7” squares.
Cut (7) strips, 2 ½” wide for binding.
Fabric C (purple)
Cut (8) strips 3 ½” wide for inner border.
Fabric D (yellow)
Cut (2) strips 11” wide, sub-cut into (4) 11” squares.
Cut (3) strips 5 ½” wide, sub-cut into (16) 5 ½” squares.
Fabric E (stripe)
Cut (8) strips 7” wide for outer border. Making the Setting Blocks
(Double Four Patch)
With RST stitch a 3” red and 3” blue strip together on the long
side of strip. Press seam toward blue. (Make 3) Cut strip set in half. Place
one half of strip set RST on opposite half, making sure that the two colors
are opposite one another. (Make 2 more strip sets)
Sub-cut the layered strips into (16) 3” sections. Stitch sections,
making sure to match intersections. (Make 16)
Press all seams to one side.
Stitch a yellow 5 ½” square to each four-patch. (Make 16)
Press seams toward pieced block. Stitch two units together to create a double
four-patch block, matching intersections. (Make 8)
Making the Setting Blocks
(Half Square Triangles)
Mark a diagonal line on back of 11” yellow square from corner to corner.
With RST place yellow square on 11” blue square. Stitch ¼” on
both sides of the diagonal line. Cut squares apart on this line.
Press seam towards blue side. (Make 8)
Trim block to 10 ½”.
Assembling the Quilt Top
With RST and raw edges matched, stitch the blocks in each row.
Follow quilt layout diagram to determine block placement. Press the seams
in each row in opposite directions. Stitch rows together to complete quilt
center. Stitch (2) purple strips together, end to end, to get the length
needed for each inner border portion, top, bottom and both sides prior to
attaching to quilt. (Make 4) Sew pieced inner borders (purple) to both sides
of pieced quilt center. Press seams toward border. Trim off excess length.
Sew pieced inner borders (purple) to top and bottom of pieced quilt center.
Press seams toward border. Trim off excess length.
Stitch (2) stripe fabric strips together, end to end, for each outer border
portion, top, bottom, and both sides prior to attaching to quilt. Match pattern
where necessary.
Sew outer border (stripe) to top and bottom of inner border (purple).
Press seams toward border. Trim off excess length. Cut pieced striped border
to quilt side dimensions, 66 ½” (includes purple border and ½” for
seam allowance). Stitch blue 7” squares to both sides of outer borders.
Press seams toward blue squares (Make 2). Stitch both side borders to inner
border (purple), matching intersections. Press seams toward outer border.
Finishing
Layer quilt top, batting and backing. Quilt as desired. Bind. For
