Edge Placemat(With Napkin Ring)
Materials For Placemat:
Two 15” x 20” rectangles of fabric
One 15” x 20 rectangles of low loft batting
Two 5” x 7 1/2” rectangles of fabric for pocket
Thread to match

Rotary cutter
Rotary cutting mat
Instructions For Placemat:
Layer 15” x 20” pieces of fabric, right sides together and
place on batting, aligning all raw edges.
Fold width (20” side) of placemat in half. Place on cutting mat.
Place wavy edge of ruler close to one edge of layered fabric and batting,
with bottom “0” straight edge on fold. Holding ruler firmly
in position, cut through all layers. Repeat for opposite edge of placemat.
Place wavy edge of ruler close to remaining outside edge of placemat,
with bottom “0” straight edge at end. Holding ruler firmly
in place cut through all layers.
Unfold fabric and using a 1/2” seam allowance, stitch layers leaving
a 6” opening on one long edge. Clip corners and turn placemat right-side
out. Press edges and stitch opening closed.
Using fabric marker and wavy edge ruler, draw wavy lines in a criss-cross
diagonal pattern 3” apart. Following the form of the outside edge
of placemat, quilt 1/2” in from edge. Using the traced lines as
a guide, quilt the remainder of the placemat.
To create the silverware pocket, place 5 x 71/2" fabrics right
sides together and fold in half widthwise. Place on cutting mat. Place
wavy edge of ruler close to raw edges of fabric and cut through all layers.
Unfold fabric. If desired, use wavy edge of ruler to cut shape into bottom
edge. Using 1/2” seam allowance, stitch sides and bottom. Clip
bottom corners and turn right side out. Fold top raw edge inward 1/2”,
press, turn inward 1/2” and press again. Hem stitched if desired.
Materials For One Napkin Ring:
6 1/2” x 4” rectangle of fabric
Two 3 1/4” x 21” pieces of fabric
Thread to match
1” button
Instructions For Napkin Ring:
Place two long pieces of fabric right side together. Place on cutting
mat. Using wavy edge of ruler, place close to one raw edge and cut waves
along entire length of fabric. Using a 1/2” seam allowance, stitch
pieces together at sides and along wavy edge. Clip corners and turn tight
side out. Press. Baste 1/4” in along raw edges. Using a running
stitch, gather to form flower.
Press 1/2”, wrong sides together, of both 4” sides of 6
1/2” x 4” piece of fabric. Fold fabric in half widthwise,
right sides together. Using a 1/2” seam allowance, stitch length.
Turn right side out and press that seam appears at center. Stitch short
sides together to form a ring.
Sew flower to ring. Sew button in center of flower to complete the napkin
ring. |
